Comprehensive dental exams in Allen, TX

Why do we change the oil in cars and clean leaves from rain gutters? Of course, the answer is because we understand the importance maintenance. Yet, many people fail to apply that principle to their own oral health. A comprehensive dental exam at Allen Dental Studio in Allen, TX is one of the most important steps you can take toward a healthy mouth and dazzling smile.

The importance of preventive dentistry

Did you know that your chances of keeping your natural teeth for life are directly related to the frequency of dental visits? A 2014 Gallup Poll found that adults with the lowest rate of tooth loss had the highest percentage of dental visits. Professional teeth cleaning often removes tartar accumulation before decay or infection sets in. When problems do occur, regular checkups enable us to detect and treat them in the earliest stages.

In addition to avoiding pain, infection, and tooth loss, there is another important reason to seek preventive dental care. It may benefit your whole body and overall health. Untreated periodontal disease has been linked to heart attack, pneumonia, Alzheimer’s, pregnancy complications, diabetes, and other serious health problems.

What to expect

We perform a complete dental and periodontal exam at every check-up. However, the initial new patient exam is the most extensive. We assess your baseline oral health, as well as learning about your medical history and any specific concerns you may have. This allows us to tailor our treatment and oral hygiene advice to your unique needs.

The comprehensive dental exam includes:

  • Evaluate your teeth for signs of decay, worn enamel, fractures, and other damage
  • Assess soft tissue, checking for gum disease, oral cancer, inflammation, infection, and more
  • Evaluate your jaws, neck, and head
  • Screening for TMJ disorder and sleep apnea

Discussion is also an important part of the process. We will inquire about your oral health and habits, find out if you’ve been experiencing any symptoms, answer your questions, and provide home care guidance. If you haven’t seen a dentist in the past six months, please give us a call at (469) 293-2007  and schedule an appointment.
